Jobhunter visits random conference
Yesterday I went to see a prospective employer at the the Trading standards institute annual conference at the Excel centre, London.
I'm looking at the possibility of going into computer forensics and security , and this company (Protiviti) seem interesting. I was tipped off by an old lecturer (Angus) who forwarded my CV to them.
The job seems interesing, but i'm not sure how quickly they will get back to me! I have to think about another job in Crawley, for a similar company (Baker Tilly), but doing .NET software development, and I haven't actually got a current offer from them, however the agent i've been dealing with thinks he can get me an offer if I decide quickly that I want it!
At the moment, I like the idea of Forensic computing, but I know very little about it.
The cool thing about Protiviti's forensic computing department is that they have at least 2 former members of the CIC working for them :) (Haffe and Karen) and the company may be looking to cross train the staff in computer security.
The conference itself was pretty interesting, it was a chance for public and private sector companies to network with the Trading Standards community about services they offer and how it can help enforcement etc.
One cool stall was a company that make tiny surveilence camera's and a solid state video recorder which includes a full audit trail, meaning that the captured video can be used in court. The system is called Crystal, but I forget the name of the company.
There was loads of other stuff too, and there were lots of naff freebies given away, however I just managed to get a can of Coke, a pen, a laptop rucksack and 2 boiled sweets! hehe
