Our trip to Kos

The holiday started off to an annoying start when we were delayed for 5 hours at Gatwick, but a £4 voucher and a soduko book later we were off to the sunny greek island of Kos!

We arrived at night and weren't able to see much of the island on the coach transfer, but we managed to get to the denise apartments in time to catch the end of the soccerball and to have a beer!

We explored our surroundings on the first day and headed of into Kos town to see what was what. We spend the day wandering round the shops, ruins, the castle and Hippocrate's (the father of medicine) plane tree.

The next day we went on a land train tour of Kos, and realised we had walked to exact route the day before!

Our first organised trip was the Night out in Kos (Bar crawl) organised by the reps, which meant we got a free 'shot' in every bar we went into, and I took part in one of bar games, drinking a vodka nad coke as quickly as possible! The prize, another vodka and coke! hehe

The morning after the bar crawl we headed off to Paradise beach to clear the hangovers. We tried our hand at wind surfing which Laura excelled at, and we had a go of the jet-ski's which were fantastic!

For Sunday morning we had booked a fishing trip, expecting a small boat with a few people and a load of fishing rods, we were suprised when we found the large boat to be full of screaming german children and their parents, and a box full of hand-fishing spools :( This was not what we had expected, but we decided to make the best of it! Laura managed to catch the first fish and won a bottle of wine for it, after that whenever someone caught a fish, a shout of 'Ouzo!' was cried from the the boat captain Gianni and the captor had to take a shot (cup!) of Ouzo. I caught 2 fish, and Laura caught 4 (the most out of everyone on-board) so I had to have a few Ouzos! We stopped for a swim and to barbeque up our catch.

We attended another organised trip, and went to Greek night where we were encouraged to have our photo taken with a traditional greek dancer (apparently). We were then all allocated on tables of eight, we were lucky to be seated with 4 teetotal ladies from North Yorkshire, one of which I convinced myself was the ladies gurning champion chain smoker. However, I did accompany her for a dance, as the other ladies were too shy! hehe - the picture in the gallery with just three of us on stage is me practicing belly dancing! hehe this could be due to the wine being free-flowing :S

Kos is very close to Turkey, and there are loads of day trip packages to choose from, we chose to go on a Hyfrofoil which takes 20 mins from Kos Town harbour. We went on a Tuesday, as this is when the Bodrum Bazaar takes place, which was basically a covered market packed full of stalls and tourists, selling the same old junk - counterfeit everything clothes wise, and leather etc. - we were sucked into buying some sheep leather(?) wallets and a belt for some inflated cost, but thats just how it goes. I was a little upset that I didn't get a t-shirt I saw, as I couldn't find it anywhere else. It read 'Vodka - Connecting People' in the Nokia type-face, which I found highly amusing! Maybe I can get one printed myself!

That evening we stayed at the apartments and tried our hand at Karaoke, well after a few Ouzos and wine it was a little easier to join in!

We eventually stumbled a fishing tackle shop, and I persuaded (Pestered) Laura that we needed a telescopic rod and a cheap reel so that I could catch us some dinner. First evenings fishing didn't yield any fish :S but nevermind :S

Laura's birthday was on the Thursday, on which some of the other guests at the apartments and we had persuaded the owners to hold their BBQ and Greek night on. For the daytime however, we had booked a very relaxing 3 island cruise. The evening was really good, and the friends we had made (Sam, Adi, Jessie, Nanna, Tom and Sheryl (with an S))had arranged for a cake for Laura, but had unfortunately got the age wrong (28 instead of 27) which was quite funny! Yet again - more Ouzo, Wine, Beer and Dancing!

The next day, I managed to persuade some fish to take the bait, and I managed to prove to Laura that in fact I am king of fishing, sort of.

We decided to celebrate the days catch by going on the Kos town bar crawl again, this time knowing the route, and the games to expect (and hence how to get the free drinks!). In one of the bars however, they introduced a new game, where three couples competed to be the sexiest tequila drinking couple! I was (forced?) to lick salt from Laura's navel, drink tequila and then eat the lemon held in Laura's mouth, in the sexiest way possible. This was of course no problem :S and we were given very loud applause! Then, the tables were turned, Laura had to negotiate my blue fluffed belly button to get her salt etc. (Schnapps instead). We were of course the sexiest there! :) and won a 'sex on the beach' cocktail for our effort!

Eventually all good things come to and end, and one of the families we had made friends with had to go home. So we all decided to go out for a meal. We had happened to be on the same flight and be in the same apartments and made freinds with a family from the Hastings area, so we had a big group of us at the restaraunt.

The last few days in Kos saw us fishing a little more and more lounging by the pool. We also hired a quad bike for a day, and went for a little explore. We went down the coast to Thermae to see the hot springs, which were, well hot and springy, but nothing special, we also went in the opposite direction to Tingaki beach, which had nice sand, unlike the beaches surrounding Kos town.

On our last day we joined the family from Hastings at the nearby waterpark. The place itself was OK, but nothing compared to some we had been to, but it was quiet and friendly, and we had some fun on the slides and on the Zip wire.

On the last evening we went out for a meal with Nick and Kat (of the Hastings family) who left their daughter with her grandparents for the evening. The waiter was really friendly, and was giving me tips on where to catch the biggest fish (In the harbour between two specific boats!) and giving us all Ouzo! He also gave Nick and I a shot of his home made Ouzo supply, which was much stronger, but smoother than the normal stuff!

At last, we said goodbye to sunny kos, and got the plane back to England. Where its pretty cold. :S

All in all, a very relaxing holiday!
