Kuala Lumpur
We made it to Kuala Lumpur without a hitch, and managed to find a nice place, the Back-Packers Lodge(B.P.L) near the brawl of central Chinatown. We arrived quite early in the day after an interesting 14 hour train journey from Kota Bharu, we had 2nd class sleeping beths, which were more comfortable than some of the beds we have endured so far on our journey! hehe
Our first mission for the day was to visit the famous(?) Petronas towers to walk across the skybrige on the 41st floor, but we were told that all the days tickets had been sold! So we resigned ourselves to coming back the next day (today) and spendint the rest of the day mooching around the enormous and expensive shopping centre! (Laura hates shopping as you all know ;) hehe)
We spent the evening browsing through the night market in china-town and eating in a local food court thinger where most of the stalls had closed for the night (was about 10pm) and then headed off for the first beer in a week or so (I didn't get any beer on the Perhentians) at the Reggae Bar next door to our accommodation.
This place was what you might expect from a bar next to a popular back-packers place, expensive beer and western food/clietelle, but it was quite nice for somewhere to relax, until of course, a big rat ran across the bar and down the stairs!
today we managed to get to the skybridge, after queuing for 1 hour to get tickets for 3 hours later! doh - so more shopping ensued.
This afternoon/evening we ventured into the Little India area of Kuala Lumpor, where we did more shopping, then stopped for dinner at a popular looking place. It was lovely, we had enormous portions and smiley service, even though we were the only foreigners there (not sure what the malay equivalent of 'farang' is).
2moro we are off the the central market near chinatown (cultural crafts and food methinks) then off to the landscaped gardens and lakes area of the city which should be nice and peaceful after the hustle and bustle in the city! Much like Bangkok but cleaner and harder to barter! hehe
We have tickets for singapore on friday so will update you soon!
More pics are on the gallery! (perhenthians and KL)
